Properties: Stearic acid is one kind of saturated fatty acid, with the relative density of 0.9408 (20 ºC), melting point of 69 ~ 70 ºC, 383 ºC boiling point, refractive index of 1.4299 (80 ºC). The appearance is white or light yellow granular. It is mixture of stearic acid and palmitic acid. It contains a few oleic acid, and a little butter smell. Not dissolved in cool water, easily dissolved in benzene, toluen, chlorofom, carbon tetrachlorid, carbon bisulfide, acetic ester, also in ethanol, aceton.
